What's A Gobo?

I was talking to a fellow animator, telling him about Gobo's in lighting. How very easily you can add someing as simple as a fractal map to a light and immediatly add interest to your 3D scene. The top image is lit without a gobo. The bottom with.

Clearly Green

Ever since I saw the Broadway musical "Wicked" I've been worndering if Elphabas green was only skin deep. This chunk of flesh was discovered in the cracks of the Winkie castle floor where the witch was melted. Now I don't have to wonder any more.

Qi Robot

I had an idea, a story board, and a sketch. I got most of the modeling done on this character when the project got canceled. I finished the character anyway. Here he is in all his robotness glory.

One funny thing about him is the reaction of some of the people I work with when they see him. One person said he looked like one of the robots from the movie "Robots". Hmmm! OK. Another said his mouth reminded him of Rustboy. I pointed out to him that Rustboy doesn't even have a mouth. My opinion is that this guy is so bizzar that they are not sure weather they like him. But they want to make some kind of intelligent comment about him. I think he turned out pretty cool and he would have been great in the short he was to star in. Oh well, next month I'll probably get the green light on him.

Kitting

I haven't posted in awhile because I haven't had anything I thought worthy. This illustration isn't that exciting, thought I think it turned out well. It is step 2 in how to put together a face moisturizing kit (or as it is called in the industry kitting). Pretty exciting ha? Oh well, I should have some cool stuff coming up.

Flashback Brothers

I reworked a logo I'd previously created for the greatest classic Rock & Roll band in Utah County. I play bass guitar in the band.
I recreated it in Adobe Illustrator to make it easier to get banners, flyers and business cards made. We are playing our first concert this Saturday for a private party. I will post some photos next week.

Scottish Athlete

I love it when I can get clients to come to my studio. I emailed him several versions not getting the colors quite right. When he did finally come over we had it just the way he wanted in minutes.

In the logo our athlete is doing the "Sheaf Toss". It is a Scottish game where the athlete pitches a burning burlap bag stuffed with straw over a bar without touching it. The bar is then raised and those who have been successful go on to new heights. In the modern Shef Toss the bag is not set on fire.

Camp Heleman

As you can tell by my blog. I love to draw. The people in my church use my talents to create cool logos for youth activities. It's lots of fun, and I am glad to contribute. Here is one for a 3 day summer camp for the young men in my area.

Charms

It's amazing how many times I spend countless hours creating really cool art. Then the client decides to cancel the job. This is some art that was created for charms to go on a charm bracelet. Our Japaneese department decided not to do it. Oh well, it was still fun to do. It also makes for a great rant.

Scottish Festival Logo

I decided that creating a blog would let all 2 of my friends and family see what new and exciting creations I am creating. Here is the first of many.

The Payson, Utah Scottish Festival is now in its 24th year. I was asked to update the bag piper and create had lettering for a new logo. It will be used on t-shirts, programs, etc.
